PTSD Therapy

PTSD Therapy

Response to threats and trauma is a very personal experience. What we perceive of as a threat or danger is different for each of us. This may not be understood by family or others around us, who do not understand our reactions. Sometimes these experiences stay with us and continue to cause distress, either emotional or in our behaviour such as sleep or how we feel when with others.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after the witnessing or experiencing of an event that is traumatic. These events may include witnessing a death, being in an accident, or the experience of sexual or domestic violence. These profound experiences can cause long-term changes in our lives if untreated. We may become uncomfortable in situations and begin to avoid once familiar or enjoyable places, or even prefer to remain at home. We can become irritable with loved ones or develop self-doubts such that we no longer live life as before the event.

Having worked in the area of sexual and domestic violence for many years, Jo has seen the impacts of PTSD, not only on the patient, but also their loved ones. PTSD is treatable through psychological therapy. If you are living with the symptoms of PTSD, help is available. Make a call to Jo for more information.
