OCD Psychologist
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder that is characterised by distressing, repetitive thoughts (e.g. “My family will be contaminated”), which are often followed by actions or compulsions that attempt to eliminate the distressing emotions triggered by the thought (such has repetitive cleaning or checking that the stove or iron are turned off).
OCD effects approximately 2% of the Australian population. The distressing thoughts can be intensely upsetting and disturbing. For example, some people have obsessional thoughts about death, sex and sexuality, or harming others.
Exposure and response prevention is a scientifically endorsed treatment that has good outcomes for OCD patients. Jo has provided this therapy for patients with a range of obsessions and compulsions, and has seen its effectiveness.
